Logical Framework (Logframe)
A logical framework — "logframe" — is a one-page matrix that maps a project's
cause-and-effect logic so a funder can audit it at a glance.
THE RESULTS CHAIN
Activity → Output → Outcome → Impact.
Example: a tourism-skills training programme (activity) → 300 youth trained
(output) → 220 placed in formal jobs (outcome) → lower youth unemployment and
reduced out-migration (impact).
THE FULL MATRIX
A complete logframe pairs each level with an INDICATOR (how it is measured), a
BASELINE and TARGET, a MEANS OF VERIFICATION (where the proof comes from), and
the ASSUMPTIONS that must hold for the logic to work. Most donors require it as a
mandatory annex — and building it first makes the whole proposal easier to write.
"Activity: vocational training cohorts → Output: 300 youth certified → Outcome: 220 placed in formal employment → Impact: lower youth unemployment rate in Cedar Bay.
